Derek's albums

Derek was the first member to respond to my request for pictures, so he's being used as a bit of a guinea pig when it comes to the testing of the album format.

Derek has been a motorcyclist for 47 years and retired from a local water company in 2007.  His hobby is restoring classic bikes, which he does on a tight budget, following an attack of "Wife".  He says that what he can't afford to buy from the regular retailers, he has made for himself or bought on eBay or Old Bike Mart.  This, to me at least, is a part of the beauty of Bantaming - not only do they have great character, but as a hobby, it doesn't cost an absolute fortune, and with a little dedication and ingenuity, a person can easily keep one of these beauties running for even less than one of those Rocket Gold Star's.

Derek has two Bantam's - a D10 which he bought in the Old Bike Mart and a D14 Sport which came from eBay, he regularly meets with Colyn Thomas (the  club's Technical Officer) whilst displaying his bikes at local steam fairs and rallies.

Although I think both of Derek's bikes are wonderful, the thing that really makes me jealous is the photography.  Derek's pictures are vey well laid out and it comes as no surprise to learn that he is an enthusiast.  Take a look at the black and white image in the D14 gallery, it was taken by his daughter for her college course in photography, no need to ask where she learnt that skill!  A real chip off the old block, it can't be too long before she's restoring a Bantam of her own
