Applying for a registration number - retaining the original number
In order to re-claim the original registration number of a motor cycle you must obtain from the post office forms V765 and V55/5, which is the blue form used to licence the vehicle, fill in both of these (remembering that the classification is HISTORIC) and send them to me together with the old log book, or the old tax discs. If you do not have either of these you will not be able to reclaim your number but you can obtain a date relevant number, please click here for information on applying for an age-related number.
If you are nervous about sending me the original documents, and wish to be certain that you don't lose them, you can take them to a local D.V.L.A. office and ask them to photo copy them all and certify them as true copies, and send the copies to me instead of the originals, but please note this can ONLY be accomplished at a DVLA office.
Also send two photographs of your machine one of which should have on the reverse the following:
I have inspected this motorcycle, on (date) at (address where seen)
I confirm that it is exactly as seen in this photograph.
The engine number is ________ The frame number is ___________ Date __________ Signature _____________ Name ________________- Address_______________ Status _________________ Tel No.________________
This must be completed by a police officer, doctor, councillor etc, the same as would be eligible to fill in the reverse of your passport photo.
Rubbings of the frame and engine numbers must be included.
The charge for this service is £20 for members, and £25 for non-members.
The process after this is the same as applying for an age-related plate.
